Is it time to hang up your sermon notes? Sell everything and move to Africa? Or just be done with ministry all together?
Change is a part of life and leadership. I think more so for the person in ministry. God leads you to a certain assignment and you think you’ll be there for the long-haul. But that doesn’t always happen.
Maybe you’re wondering if it’s time for you to end this current assignment. But how do you know? God doesn’t always give an audible It’s time to quit. Here are a few clues I’ve learned over the years:
Agitation. You’ve been feeling this agitation or restlessness in your spirit. It won’t go away. And no matter how hard you try you just seem to be in a “mood” 24/7.
No Motivation. Five years ago, if your boss said, I need you to move your ministry up to the next level, you would have been all over it. You would have lost track of time at night working to make improvements. But now? The thought of moving that same ministry to the next level makes you want to cry.
Passions Change. You once had a passion for what you did. But slowly those passions have subsided and your daydreams are drifting elsewhere.
Vision Change. It could have been a change in leadership which meant a change in ministry vision. Or your current leader’s vision has changed and it isn’t something you can get on board with.
Toxic Relationships. Maybe some toxic relationships crept into the job and they can’t seem to be worked out. Gossip, lying, and isolation seem to be the norm.
If any of these ring true then it might be God speaking to you that it is time to move on to your next assignment. I highly encourage you to seek wise council to coach you through the process. Start journaling if you don’t already. This will help you get the jumbled up thoughts in your brain smoothed out on paper. I also highly recommend the book, STUCK! This book was a game changer for me, and I’m sure it will be for you too.
PRAY WITH ME SISTER
Lord, if this is your time to transition me, please make it clear. Help me make this season come to a smooth close. One of integrity and honor to you. I pray the next season will be clear, fruitful, and doors will open that no man can shut. But also close the doors that may distract me.
In Jesus Name, AMEN.
